Male Breast Reduction

(Gynecomastia)

Male breast augmentation can be a serious aesthetic problem for men. A man’s breast can be enlarged due to the presence of adipose tissue (a common case in obese people) or due to enlarged glandular tissue.

Preparation

During the consultation with Dr. Smiljanic, the doctor will suggest the best method of correction, introduce you to possible complications and tell you what preoperative preparation is necessary (tests and findings). After the standard preoperative preparation, an examination by an endocrinologist is required, in order to check the hormonal status of the patient, and primarily, all sex hormones.

Procedure

The procedure lasts between one and two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. The operation involves removing the mammary gland, through a small incision at the edge of the areola, at the transition from light to dark skin. If a larger amount of surrounding fat is present, it is removed by liposuction. In case the breast is so big that it almost resembles a woman, there is an excess of breast skin, the areolas are enlarged and the nipples are lowered, surgical methods similar to those for breast reduction are applied, but modified.

Complications

There is a possibility, although rare, of infections, bleeding and swelling. These are normal symptoms that subside after a few days. These complications are rare and can usually be avoided. If pain occurs after the procedure, it is easily relieved with appropriate medication.

Recovery

The patient stays in the hospital for 24 hours. The drains are removed after 24 hours, and the threads after 7-14 days. Heavy physical activities, carrying loads and playing sports for a month are prohibited

Surgery for Asymmetry and Congenital Breast Deformities

Breast asymmetry is a normal occurrence in every person. In persons in whom this asymmetry is significantly pronounced, surgical correction is suggested. Asymmetry can be the result of a breast defect, an underdeveloped breast, or a large breast. The operation should be done after the completion of the complete development of the breast. Augmentation is usually done by installing silicone implants.

Preparation

During the consultation with Dr. Smiljanic, the doctor will suggest the best method of correction, introduce you to possible complications and tell you what preoperative preparation is necessary (tests and findings).

Procedure

The procedure lasts about 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. The patient remains in the hospital 24 hours after surgery. If the asymmetry is less pronounced, the procedure consists of inserting implants of different sizes with the same surgical technique as with breast augmentation surgery. When the asymmetry is large, that is, when one breast is more relaxed than the other, it is necessary to, in addition to inserting implants into the breast of a smaller size, also perform breast lifting.

Complications

There is a possibility, although rare, of infections, bleeding and swelling. These are normal symptoms that subside after a few days. These complications are rare and can usually be avoided. If pain occurs after the procedure, it is easily alleviated with appropriate medication. After implant placement, a feeling of hardness, occasional chest pain and difficulty breathing may occur.

Recovery

After the operation, a soft compression bra is worn for a period of four weeks, which serves to fix the implants. You can return to normal activities after two weeks, and it is desirable to avoid heavier physical activities 6 weeks after the procedure. Most patients need help with normal functioning in the first few days.
